World War I History- General John J Pershing was designated the Commander in Chief of the American Expeditionary Force in France and Belgium, effective from 26 May 1917.
Pershing served continuously in that capacity until the Armistice
was signed and the AEF was demobilized. He landed in France on 13th
June 1917.
