World War II in Pictures- Mass deportations to Siberia began during the night of June 13 to 14, 1941. Thousands of people from Latvia were forced into wagons to be deported to Siberia


A total of 15,424 people, according to latest figures, were arrested and sent away in boxcars unsuited for human transportation. Among those deported were minor children and babies, most of whom died on the way or from cold or malnutrition in their settlement areas in Siberia.
