Etymology of the word seminary
Etymology of the word seminary- "commonly used for any school (especially academies for young ladies) from 1580s to 1930s"- Etymology dictionary.
When applied to the statement that "29 of the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence went to seminaries", it DOES NOT mean 29 of the 56 signers were minsters! Taking the word seminary in the context of that time period means 29 of 56 signers went to college. This is just to clarify a misnomer that has been floating around out there.
