World War II Commanders: From The Attack On Poland To The Surrender Of Japan by Ian Westwell
My rating: 1 of 5 stars
Amazon Book Description
Part of an exciting new series, this heavily illustrated volume examines
in detail, with insightful comment, the important commanders of all
arms of service and incorporates all the major belligerent nations
during World War II .An interesting introduction provides an overview of
the ranks of the period, the structure of the armed forces, how
commanders were trained and selected for leadership, and how
promotions(even demotions) were carried out, in the field and by other
means. It also looks at who controlled the armed forces and how
political leaders interfaced with the military during the war.
My first rating of a 1 star on a book. This rating is based on two things:
1. While I understand that the intent of the book was to give a brief overview of the major players during WWII, you cannot adequately do justice to these commanders in a short blurb.
2. The volume of typographical errors and misstatements of key dates and information was completely uncalled for and unacceptable for published reference material.
The more errors I found with dates and facts regarding the European Theater of Operation, the less I trusted what I was reading when it came to commanders and key information on the Pacific front which I know little about.
A very disappointing purchase and now I see why it made its way to the bargain bin.
