Book Review: "Between, Georgia" by Joshilyn Jackson

Between, GeorgiaBetween, Georgia by Joshilyn Jackson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I purchased this book over three years ago for the purpose of joining a book club that never materialized. Not being one to read much fiction, let alone "Southern" fiction, the book sat on the shelf in my library ever since. I'm glad I decided to finally give the book a chance.

Book description from Amazon:
" Nonny Frett understands the meaning of the phrase "in between a rock and a hard place" better than any woman alive. She's got two mothers, "one deaf-blind and the other four baby steps from flat crazy." She's got two men: a husband who's easing out the back door; and a best friend, who's laying siege to her heart in her front yard. And she has two families: the Fretts, who stole her and raised her right; and the Crabtrees, who won't forget how they were done wrong. Now, in Between, Georgia, a feud that began the night Nonny was born is escalating and threatening to expose family secrets.  Ironically, it might be just what the town needs...if only Nonny weren't stuck in between."

This is a quirky book, filled with bizarre characters and a storyline that elicits all kinds of emotions. The author has done such an amazing job with character and plot development, that you will be laughing one minute, dying to find out what will happen next and then finding yourself compelled to stop and reflect on how many aspects of the characters' personalities are ones you possess yourself. Truly, the author has the gift of drawing the reader in from the first page and leaves you wanting more on the last, even though the storyline was neatly wrapped up in the end.  I encourage you to find out what happened in Between, Georgia.
