Quote of the Day- Edward R Murrow

"Good Night...and Good Luck!"
"We can deny our heritage and our history, but we cannot escape responsibility for the result" - Edward R. Murrow- CBS TV closing commentary in his documentary, See It Now,  March 9, 1954

In honor of one of the best journalists of all times, Edward R. Murrow.  He found his voice and wasn't afraid to speak out, even when his position wasn't the popular one.  He was the leading force behind uncovering the depths of persecution inflicted upon alleged "Communists" by Senator McCarthy.  He was a pioneer of TV news broadcasting, but he was first a respected war corrrespondent and broadcaster based in London during World War II.  During one of his most difficult broadcasts, he reported from Buchenwald concentration camp and he described the brutal scenes he witnessed when the Allies arrived to liberate the camp.  He stated up front that he would not apologize for his candor and explicitness, even going as far to say that he couldn't even report everything he witnessed.  He said there was no words for most of what he saw and if his words offended his listeners, he wasn't the least bit sorry.  That is the personification of someone who knew the power of words and the importance of documenting crimes against humanity, no matter how difficult it may be to hear.  May I continue to find the courage to use my voice to speak out against crimes and indecency against humanity, especially when the victims can't speak for themselves.
