History in Pictures- On January 5th, 1940, Edwin H. Armstrong transmitted the first FM radio signal from Yonkers, NY to Alpine, NJ to Meriden, CT to Paxton, MA to Mount Washington. 5 January is National FM Radio Day.

On January 5th, 1940, Edwin H. Armstrong transmitted an FM radio signal from Yonkers, NY to Alpine, NJ to Meriden, CT to Paxton, MA to Mount Washington.  This was a significant event in radio broadcasting because the FM band sound was of a higher quality than the AM radio signal.
