Qoute of the Day: Robert Kennedy Announces the Death of Martin Luther King, Jr.

April 4, 1968 -- On that cold and windy evening, Robert Kennedy broke the news of King’s death in an impassioned, extemporaneous speech on the need for compassion in the face of violence.  It has proven to be one of the great speeches in American political history.  Although a number of cities erupted with riots following King’s death, Indianapolis did not. 

What a poignant moment.   The same words resonate as much today as they did the day Robert Kennedy spoke them.   In memory of Martin Luther King, Jr. on the 45th anniversary of  his death.

"What we need in the United States is not division; what we need in the United States is not hatred; what we need in the United States is not violence or lawlessness, but love and wisdom, and compassion toward one another, and a feeling of justice towards those who still suffer within our country, whether they be white or whether they be black."
