World War I in Pictures- Congress approves President Wilson's request to declare war against Germany on 4 April 1917.

President Woodrow Wilson’s second Inaugural Address, March 4, 1917. Wilson prepares Americans for United States involvement in World War I. He would ask Congress to declare war on April 2.At 8:30 on the evening of Monday, April 2, 1917, President Wilson appeared before   a  joint session of Congress and asked for a declaration of war against Germany in   order to "make the world safe for democracy." On April 4, Congress granted Wilson’s request.
