World War II History- Traveling in a bomber, Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, was shot down by American P-38 fighters on 18 April 1943.


Yamamoto Isoroku, original name Takano Isoroku (born April 4, 1884, Nagaoka, Japan—died April 18, 1943, Solomon Islands), was a Japanese naval officer who conceived of the surprise attack on the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. 

Yamamoto was born in Japan in 1884 and studied at Harvard University
He was killed on Bougainville Island when his transport bomber aircraft was shot down by U.S. Army fighter aircraft operating from Henderson Field on Guadalcanal.


Survivors of Operation Vengeance. This was the name given to the military operation to kill Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto on April 18, 1943.
