World War II in Pictures- First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt christened the Alazon Bay, 5 April 1943.


The greatest crowd in the history of Clark County, an estimated 75,000 shipyard workers, visiting dignitaries and local citizens, crowded the Vancouver Shipyards on April 5, 1943, to cheer as First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt christened the Alazon Bay, the first of 50 escort aircraft carriers to be built at the local yard.
