World War II in Pictures- In a solemn moment at the White House in Washington, 19 May 1942, President Roosevelt pins the Congressional Medal of Honor on Brig. Gen. James H. Doolittle and cites him for leading the American bombers on the raid of the Japanese mainland. Lt. Gen. H.H. Arnold, commander of the Army Air Force, and Mrs. Doolittle watch the ceremony.
