History in Pictures- Capitol Tower, the home of Capitol Records in Hollywood, was dedicated on 6 April 1956. It was the first circular office tower in America.


Capitol Records Tower (1956), 1750 N.Vine Street, Los Angeles, CA  designed by Welton Becket (1902-1969).  Staffer Louis Naidorf came up with the cylindrical shape -- the world's first cylindrical office building, 13-stories high, promoted as "the office of tomorrow when it opened on April 6, 1956 -- a blinking light at the top of the building spells "Hollywood" in Morse code.
The 13-story earthquake-resistant tower was designed by Welton Becket and was intended to look like a stack of records and the blinking light atop the tower spells out the phrase "Hollywood" in Morse code.
